Amazon API Changes

CompetitorEye and Amazon.
CompetitorEye’s long term goal is to provide the business intelligence needed to help you make the best well-formed decisions possible,
to automate the mundane and tedious tasks related to repricing and provide a powerful set of tools, analysis and reporting.
It has been our goal to provide this for Amazon.com, Buy.com, Sears.com, eBay.com and other channels.
At the design stage of our system, we chose the path of not relying too heavily on any particular channels API,
knowing that such development time and effort can become obsolete at any moment depending on that channels whims. We have seen this happen
over the years with Amazon's API which has been continually narrowed and limited over the years.
Software and systems typically expand overtime as CompetitorEye tries to do, continually introducing new features and enhancements,
Amazon on the other hand, appears to have taken the opposite approach making their software and systems less and less desirable, more limited and with less features.
Amazon has recently announced changes to the API which will take effect 10/25/2011. Again limiting / downgrading the usefulness of the API. CompetitorEye has reviewed and found no enhancement(s) to Amazon service with its scheduled changes, only downgrading of its functionality.
Why Amazon chooses to release these changes / downgrades at the beginning of the holiday selling season is anyone’s guess, but as the last few years have shown, has caused some havoc for many sellers and or services utilizing the Amazon API.
Even so, CompetitorEye will continue to function properly and although some minor features of our tool-set will need to be revised, such as competitor “on-demand” reporting, due to our original design of not relying heavily on any specific channels API, these changes will not cause us the headaches it will for similar services.
We urge you to participate in this general discussion, tell us your experiences with Amazon’s API downgrades over the recent years and how rolling them out at the beginning of the holiday season has affected your business.
